Spend “Tooth Time” Together

Turning brushing and flossing into a routine will help your child not only accept dental hygiene practices as a part of their day to day life, but look forward to it. If you help them brush in the morning and then brush along with them, you can show them how important it is to take care of their teeth if they want to grow up to have a great smile. Find a song that they really like (and is approximately two minutes long) and play it every time you brush. This will help establish the routine and practice of brushing for at least two minutes and it associates what is basically a boring chore with something really fun.

Leave Your Hang Ups at the Door

One of the best things you can do to make your kids enjoy taking care of their teeth is by showing them that you like it, too. Even if you hate going to the dentist, tell your kids that it is awesome, that it is fun, that the dentist is cool, and that taking care of your teeth will help them stay healthy and happy throughout their lives. Kids don’t like doing things that they don’t see their parents doing, and they want to be seen as grown-ups, so show them how grown-ups act.
